Colasanti: new work for flute and strings
The world premiere of Partita, Silvia Colasanti’s new composition for flute and strings, will be performed on July 18 at the Emilia Romagna Festival in Bologna. The soloist Massimo Mercelli and I Solisti Aquilani will be conducted by Michelangelo Galeati.
Partita is the first work the composer has written for solo flute and ensemble:
“Commissioned to form part of a programme dedicated entirely to Bach, the piece is a rereading of the Baroque form of the partita in a contemporary key: a set of stylised dances, to which my composition alludes, faithful to the spirit of each dance using regular metres, fixed rhythms, repetitive structures, and ostinati, typical of Baroque rhythm. The composition is divided into an Aria and three movements. After the premiere, the work will be performed at the Ravello Festival on August 5. Partita is a joint commission of Emilia Romagna Festival, Ravello Festival, I Solisti Aquilani and Amiata Piano Festival.”
