One of the world's greatest classical music festivals, the BBC Proms, returns to the Royal Albert Hall this Summer. This year's season features 22 works by 12 UMP Classics & Screen composers across 13 Proms, with two additional composers making appearances as conductors.

We would like to introduce you to some of these extraordinary artistic personalities on the occasion of today's International Women's Day.

While working at the venerable house of Ricordi’s German branch, a low-profile denizen of Berlin’s hip Universal Music headquarters on Stralauer Allee, one can suddenly find oneself struggling against a sensation of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Universal Music Publishing Group (UMPG) today announced that Natasha Baldwin has been promoted to Executive Vice President, Classics and Screen. Based in London, she will report to Jody Gerson, UMPG Chairman and CEO, and Marc Cimino, UMPG Chief Operating Officer. 

The BBVA Foundation Frontiers of Knowledge Award in the Music and Opera category has gone in 2021 to the Hungarian composer and conductor Peter Eötvös, “undoubtedly one of the most important musical voices of our time” in the words of the citation. “His artistic significance, originality and contribution to the advancement of music since the second half of the 20th century can be recognized in his writing for voice, solo instrument and orchestra, and in operas such as Three Sisters. His instrumental compositions have been played by the most important ensembles and orchestras around the world.”

Despite all the cancellations in the music industry, there are perhaps a few works that emerge from the crisis as Corona Winners. These are works which have found themselves in the limelight more often now than they did previously, because in addition to their musical qualities they have favorably small instrumentations, moderate durations, catch the ear, and are easily combined.
