World premiere of Silvia Colasanti’s piece for Yuri Bashmet
On February 8, Yuri Bashmet and the Moscow Soloists will perform the world premiere of Silvia Colasanti’s Preludio, Presto and Lamento, in Foligno, Italy. The piece was commissioned by the Amici della Musica di Foligno and dedicated to the ensemble by the composer.
Colasanti writes that the “work, written for the viola - an instrument whose dark and warm colour has always fascinated me - rests on a three-part structure: a Preludio, rich in contrasts, a Presto, characterised by a relentless rhythm, and a final Lamento, in which the viola traces a long arabesque on a carpet of veiled archaic harmonies.”
Bashmet and the Moscow Soloists will present a second performance of Preludio, Presto and Lamento in Milan on February 9 in the Sala Verdi at the Milan Conservatory as part of the Serate Musicali.
