New Interviews: Bianchi, Meïmoun, Schoeller, Trotignon
Philippe Schoeller
For the opening night of the Festival Les Musiques in Marseille (GMEM), Philippe Schoeller will present the premiere of his concerto for orchestra Tiger. This “feline” piece illustrates the perfection of the animal gesture as a language form. Philippe Schoeller presents his piece in this interview.
François Meïmoun
At the same festival, viola player Christophe Desjardins will introduce Philippe Manoury’s Partita I with François Meïmoun’s new piece, Le Chant des Barbares. In this interview, Christophe Desjardins and François Meïmoun talk about their collaboration.
Baptiste Trotignon
After the success of Different Spaces, a piano concerto premiered by Orchestre National de Bordeaux-Aquitaine and also performed by Orchestre National de Lille, Baptiste Trotignon continues composing “written,” “non-improvised” music. His first string quartet, entitled Empreintes, will be premiered at the Opéra de Bordeaux. The title of the quartet refers to the huge legacy left by composers of the string quartet genre, and the way a composer today can use this source of energy and inspiration to express his own vision. Baptiste Trotignon presents his piece and their writing stakes in this interview.
Oscar Bianchi
Oscar Bianchi’s residency with several arts organization in the city of Clermont-Ferrand begins this month with the performance of a piece for concertante cello and string orchestra entitled Celeste discontinuità, co-commissioned by the Orchestre d’Auvergne and Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz. After composing Oneness for large orchestra, Oscar Bianchi wanted to work on orchestral material that is reduced and tight and which imposes the kind of challenges that are similar to those of writing for a string quartet. The commission from Orchestre d’Auvergne and Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz gives him the opportunity to do just that. In these interviews, Oscar Bianchi talks about the residency and his new work for string orchestra.
