Marco Stroppa and Pierre-Laurent Aimard on tour

In July and August Marco Stroppa and Pierre-Laurent Aimard go on tour with their project ‘Kontakte’. This initiative takes its name from the composition by Karlheinz Stockhausen, and to realise it Stroppa – who will produce the electronic part – will work together with the percussionist Samuel Favre. As well as the performance of the famous piece by the German composer, the project includes the performance of Marco Stroppa’s own Traiettoria, with Pierre-Laurent Aimard on the piano and the composer once again in charge of the electronic part.

Since its first performance by the pianist Adriano Ambrosini in 1985, Traiettoria has been extended and modified a number of times up to when the duo Aimard/Stroppa performed the world premiere of the entire work in Amsterdam on 12 February 1989.

The three movements that make up Traiettoria: Traiettoria… deviata (7’), Dialoghi (13’) and Contrasti (26’), consist in an alternation of sections with piano or electronics and sections with both. The connections between the parts are mediated by figures that vary continually, from simple juxtaposition to the most elaborate interweaving.

The performances of the Kontakte project take place in Graz on 4 July, Tanglewood on 9 August and Edinburgh on 18 August.
