Enthusiastic reviews for Lortzing opera
Albert Lortzing's opera Regina reflects the German revolution of 1848; it features choirs of workers on strike and patriotic freedom hymns. But as the political revolution failed, there was no chance to perform Regina during Lortzing's lifetime (he died in 1851). The world premiere took place in 1899, and Regina has almost been forgotten ever since.
Now the opera houses in Kaiserslautern and Ludwigshafen have made a new production of the original version based on the critical edition by Ricordi Berlin - and received enthusiastic reviews: "Get there as fast as you can, it is worth it" (FAZ). Further performances are coming up on December 14 and 27 (Photo: Hans-Jürgen Brehm-Seufert).
