For the past several years, Editions Durand-Salabert-Eschig (Editions DSE), the Paris-based member of the Universal Music Publishing Classical group has supported various high-level international competitions which allow us to discover talented young artists, composers and performers who have been recognized as rising stars.

American composer Adam Schoenberg is enjoying widespread success with his orchestral works Finding Rothko (2006) and American Symphony (2011). Finding Rothko will soon have over 30 performances to its credit, with more coming up next season with the Florida Orchestra and Phoenix Symphony, among others.

“A composition for two violins, viola, and cello, four voices that overlap, assist each other, hold each other up, to arrive together at the expressive punctum represented by the crucifixion of Our Lord.” This is how Battistelli introduces Struggenze, a composition that will be premiered in the course of the WDR 3 Ostermusik 2014 concert series in Cologne.

French composer Eric Tanguy’s new work Stabat mater was written for the Easter Aix-en-Provence Festival and will be premiered in April by cellist Henri Demarquette and the vocal ensemble Sequenza 9.3. Also in April, Tanguy’s In a dream will be have its French premiere.

Two highly anticipated Kurtág publications were released in March: Lebenslauf (1992) and Einige Sätze aus den Sudelbüchern von Georg Christoph Lichtenberg (1999). Until now they could be performed only from the manuscripts and only by special permission of the composer. Now both works are published and freely available for performance.

Ensemble Contemporain of the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional, conducted by Xavier Delette, will perform the world premiere of Au temps du rêve by Philippe Hersant in Paris on April 11.

Dai Fujikura is appointed “Composer in Residence” of the Nagoya Philharmonic Orchestra starting in April 2014.
