On 4 March at the 2016 Biennale Musiques en scène in Lyon, the Orchestre National de Lyon will perform the world premiere of Daniele Ghisi’s Any Road. Written for orchestra, electronics and video, the work will be conducted by Olari Elts. The electronics have been realised by GRAME (Centre National de Création Musicale).
The video, conceived by Boris Labbé, begins by projecting with a projection of the old videogame Pong. The sounds of the bouncing ball and those of the animation are broadcast by two loudspeakers placed on each side of the orchestra. The orchestra itself, at the beginning an unwelcome guest, gains more and more the sonic space during the course of the composition until it eventually takes the main sonic role. Any Road, is, as Daniele Ghisi says, a playful piece, a diary of a journey, a divertissement. The work is a join commission GRAME-French Ministry of Culture.
