Romitelli’s private archive acquired by Giorgio Cini Foundation
The private papers of Fausto Romitelli (1963-2004), a figure of fundamental importance on the Italian and international music scene over the last thirty years, have been acquired by the Giorgio Cini Foundation Institute of Music, with thanks to a generous donation by the composer’s heirs.
The papers, which include some 2,000 sheets of sketches and music drafts revealing the various phases of Romitelli’s work, will permit scholars to reconstruct the genesis of the composer’s works and to study in depth the evolution of his thought from his formative years with Franco Donatoni to his research at Ircam in Paris. In addition to the autographed drafts of the composer’s most famous works, the documents include unpublished compositions from his youth, annotated scores, billboards, concert programmes, and a collection of recordings. This bequest constitutes a valuable addition to the rich collection of the Institute of Music, opening up a window to the most recent phase of musical creativity in Italy.
