In Venice on 6 December, the world premiere of Azio Corghi’s Alzarsi in volo for soprano, reciting voice, and ensemble will be performed by the soprano Valentina Coladonato and the Ex-Novo Ensemble, who commissioned the piece. The concert will be held in the Sale Apollinee at the Gran Teatro La Fenice.
The text, to be read by Sandro Cappelletto, is drawn from the novel on the Great War Il grande balipedio by Carlo Della Corte (1930-2000). The composer writes:
"What’s involved is a text that gives an account of the horrible events of the First World War through the experiences of the protagonist, the cultured and disillusioned Lieutenant Germano Bandiera... The infernal character of the war greatly impacts the musical language. Against an obsessive and grim, atonal contrapuntal andamento, lacerated by violent gestures of a “Viennese” origin, is set an “aheroic” component - a manifestation of the senselessness of everything, provocatively “tonal” – taken from the Italian song of the era O Dio del cielo, se fossi una rondinella...”
