Hèctor Parra: New opera and new quartet

Two important premieres are coming up for Hèctor Parra in the next weeks. First, his third quartet Aracne will be premiered on April 17 at Musée du Louvre. The piece was commissioned by the museum for an exhibition about the Spanish painter Velásquez. For his string quartet, Parra used the painting Las Hilanderas (La fábula de Aracne) as a source of inspiration.

After the premiere, the composition will be performed this year at London’s Wigmore Hall and at Festival Nits de Clàssica in Girona (Spain). In this conversation with two members of the Quatuor Tana, Jeanne and Antoine Maisonhaute, Hèctor Parra describes the stakes of this new compositional adventure.

In May, Hèctor Parra will be the main focus of this year’s Schwetzinger SWR Festspiele. In addition to three chamber music concerts, the festival will present his new opera Wilde, based on a libretto by Händl Klaus. The production will be directed by Calixto Bieito, conductor Peter Rundel leads the Radio-Sinfonieorchester Stuttgart des SWR.
