Carolin Widmann premieres new Dusapin piece

Pascal Dusapin’s new piece In Vivo for solo violin will be premiered by Carolin Widmann at this year’s Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik. The composition has been co-commissioned by the WDR and Konzerthaus Wien and supported by Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung, Wigmore Hall and André Hoffmann, President of the Hoffmann Group Foundation, a Swiss grant-making foundation.

“In vivo is a Latin phrase which means ‘at the heart of life’. It is also used to qualify research or practical examinations of living organisms.

The music is unlike a lifeless object in the sense that we can hear it, it is alive. A musical form is like an organism brought to life, where each part formulates and develops itself, according to a global dynamic.”
